Teodoro to fly to Jolo for ICRC worker

MANILA, Philippines — Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro is set to fly to Jolo, Sulu, early Friday morning to pick up Mary Jean Lacaba of the International Committee of the Red Cross, who was released by the Abu Sayyaf kidnappers Thursday.

“He will personally fetch her tomorrow and turn her over immediately to the Red Cross,” Teodoro’s spokeman, Nelson Victorino, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer over the phone.

Interior and local government assistant secretary Brian Yamsuan said Lacaba was released by the Abu Sayyaf at around 6 p.m. at Kupong Village in Indanan.

Lacaba’s two other co-workers at the ICRC, Swiss Andreas Notter and Italian Eugenio Vagni, were still with the Abu Sayyaf as of Thursday night.

There has been no word if the Abu Sayyaf would release them soon.
