3 cops in ICRC kidnapping face admin raps

MANILA, Philippines — Despite being released from detention Wednesday, the three policemen allegedly involved in the kidnapping of three Red Cross workers would be facing administrative charges from the Philippine National Police, Director General Jesus Verzosa said.

“We will be also conducting [filing] administrative cases against them so the investigations there are continuing,” Verzosa said in an interview.

Three of the seven suspects charged with the kidnapping of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) workers Mary Jean Lacaba, Eugenio Vagni, and Andreas Notter were policemen assigned at the Sulu provincial police office.

They have been identified as Senior Police Officer 3 Muhilmi Ismula of the Sulu Provincial Police Operations Intelligence Section, PO2 Marcial Ahajan of the Indanan Municipal Police Office, and SPO1 Sattal Jadjuli of Patikul municipal police.

The seven were ordered released by the Zamboanga City prosecutor’s office Wednesday afternoon for lack of evidence.

Despite of this, Verzosa said that investigation not only for the involvement of policemen but other individuals would continue.

“There are investigations ongoing now. If there is evidence to charge them, we will be filing the necessary charges,” he said.
